AU 291 EX DEE-'36 DESIGN.
G. HAVBL 'L 8; A. G. WILLIAMS. BICYCLE LAMP BODY.
Patented May 10, 1898.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE I-IAVELL AND ALFRED G. \VILLIAMS, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
DESIGN FOR A BICYCLE-LAMP BODY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design NO. 28,592, dated May 10, 1898.
Application filed August 9, 1897- Serial No. 647,638- Term of patent 3+ years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, GEORGE HAVELL and ALFRED G. WILLIAMS, citizens of the United States, residing at Newark, county of Essex, State of New Jersey, have invented a certain new and useful Design for a Bicycle-Lamp Body, fully described and represented in the following specification and the accompanying drawings, forming a part of the same.
Our invention relates to a design for bicycle-lamps; and it consists in a lamp-body having its rear end angular and perfectly flat and having the sides of its end concaved and the corners grooved, as will be more fully described hereinafter.
The object of our invention is to produce a novel and ornamental shape for lamp-bodies, so as to render them more attractive in appearance.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective of a lamp-body taken from the rear and which embodies our invention. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of our lamp-body. Figs. 3 and 4 are vertical sections taken through the rear angular portion, so as to more perfectly show its shape.
In our design the main portion A of the lamp-body is of cylindrical shape, and has the convex lens 13 upon one end and a truncated pyramid at the other. The end of this pyramid P is fiat and rectangular in shape except at the corners, where the extreme tips thereof are cut away and where the rear ends of the grooves or channels unite with the flat portion or end of the truncated pyramid. The sides of the pyramid are slightly concaved, as shown in Fig. 1, and a coucaved groove or channel is formed at each corner of the pyramid, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The com caved sides of the truncated cone are circular at their outer edges, perfectly straight at their rear ends and where they join the fiat portions, and their corners are curved where they make connection with the grooves.
The bottom of the body is provided with a cylindrical neck G, to which an oil-cap H of ordinary flattened round shape is attached.
A lamp-body provided with a truncated cone as here shown, having four concaved sides, grooved corners, and a flat rear end, is highly ornamental and adds greatly to the appearance of the lamp.
Having thus described our invention, we claim The design for a bicycle-lamp body substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof We have hereunto set our hands in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
