No. 227,285. Pat ented May 4,1880.
N. PETERS. PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER. WASHINGTON, D. C
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES F. MOSMAN, OF WEST MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO C. ROGERS & BROTHERS, OF SAME PLACE.
COFFlN-HANDLE TIP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 227,285, dated May 4, 1880. Application filed March 13, 1880. (ModeL) To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, UHAs. F. MOSMAN, of West Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Coffin-Handle Tips; and
I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawin gs and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in
Figurel, aside view Fig. 2,-a transverse section;
This invention relates to an improvement in tip for lifting-bar of coffin-handles, the object being to construct a tip so as to present a strong contrast as to color-as black with white without adding materially to the cost of the article; and the invention consists in the construction, as hereinafter described, and particularly recited in the claim.
The general outline of the tip is immaterial to this invention.
A represents the neck of the tip portion, and B the extreme outer end. These two parts are connected by longitudinal bars C, and so as to leave a space or recess between the said bars and the parts A and B. This is made of metal and plated in the usual manner. Into the said spacea block, D, is introduced and secured, the block having first been colored, preferably black, by varnishing or japanning, or may be of any other color. This block may be, and is preferably, made of wood. It may besecured by turning the edges ofthe bars C down onto the cylindrical surfaceof the block or otherwise, and is in shape madeto correspond to the openings in the tip, and may be varied acoordin g to the style or design required.
This construction adds little or nothing to the cost of manufacture, and produces a strong and pleasing contrast with the surrounding metal, and adds materially to the beauty of the parts without addition to cost.
I claim- A coffin-handle tip having a recess between the neck A and extreme portion B, with the block D secured in said recess, substantially as described.
