Description

AU 903 EX FIP: 35/96 DESIGN.
J. 0. AIKIN. Barrel of a P encil -Gase.
Patented June 8,1880.
Ila 131th) UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES U. AIKIN, OF NE? YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR BARREL OF A PENCIL-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 11,806, dated June 8, 1880.
Application filed December .26, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES t. AIKIN, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for the Barrel of a PencilCase, Pen-Holder, Tooth-Pick, or \Vatch-Key, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings.
Figures 1, 2, and 3 are three dili'erent side views of a barrel of my design. Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional profile view of the same.
The form of the barrel is hexagonal. Three of its sides, A B O, are shown ornamented, and the intervening sides, D E F, plain. The ornamentation of the sides may be produced by painting or enaineling, or by inlaying with gold or othernietal, glass, shell, stone, or gems. By making the sides D E F, between the ornamented sides, plain and of a dark color the ornamentation is made to present a bold and strikingly brilliant appearance.
The ornamentation on the side A consists of a vine with leaves, flowers, and a bird, as indicated by a a in Fig. 1.
The ornamentation on the side B consists of a vine with leaves and flowers, as indicated by b b in Fig. 2.
Term of patent 7 years.
The ornamentation on the side G consists of avine with leaves and flowers, as indicated by c c in Fig. 3.
I am aware that a design for pencil-cases is not new which consists of an octagonal-shaped barrel having plain pearl strips set in some of its sides, the alternating sides being ornamented, as in Reissue Patent No. 5,036; and such I disclaim.
I claim-- 1. The design for a pencil, pen, or tooth-pick case, the same consisting of the hexagonalshaped barrel having the sides A B 0, provided with central vines and projecting leaves and flowers b b, alternating with the plain smooth sides D E F, as herein described and shown.
2. The design for the barrel of a pencil-ease, pen-holder, tooth-pick, or watch-key herein shown and described, consisting", essentially, of the ornamentation a a, composed of vines, with leaves, flowers, and bird.
JAMES C. AIKIN.
