"m: NORRIS PETERS cc. Pncmuwou \VASHINGTOPL n z" UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HERBERT CAPRON MASON, OE WOON SOCKET, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR TO THE HOOD RUBBER COMPANY, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR A RUBBER SHOE.
SlEGIFIGATION forming part of Design No. 35,348, dated November 26, 1901.
Application filed April 12, 1901. Serial No. 55.552. Term of patent 14 years.
T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERBERT CAPRON MA- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Woonsocket, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, haveinvented and produced a new and original Design fora Rubber Shoe, of which the following is a specification, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, which are a part thereof.
Figure 1 in the drawings shows the shoe in side elevation, and Fig. 2 a rear elevation.
The feature of my design consists of an edge of the roughened sole of a rubber shoe turned up around the heel from a point approximately at the middle of the side of the heel and extending around the rear of the heel to the same relative position on the other side. As shown in the drawings, this turned-up edge of the sole is shown at a on the heel B. It extends up onto the upper, as shown, and the ends b are sloped down, as shown, to the ordinary edge 0 of the heel. The turned-up edge a has the same or similar style of roughened surface as the sole itself.
The design is equally applicable to rubber boots as to the shoe on which it is shown and is so claimed.
The distinctive feature of my design is the different heights of the roughened portions of the heel. The high rear portion a merges into the low front portion d, forming a continuation thereof, and the sloping edge or end I) bordering the junction between the high and low parts of the roughened portions.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patcut-- The design for a rubber overshoe substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
HERBERT OAPRON MASON.
Witnesses:
