To all whom it may concern: Be it, known that I, Momus H. SIEGEL, a

citizen of theUnited States, and a resident such manner as to be adapted. for the insertion of the foot ofthe wearer; and to provide an overshoe for temporary use.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this speci fication, in which similar characters of reference indicate'corresponding parts in all the views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of an overshoe constructed and arranged in accordance with the present invention, the parts thereof being shown as disposed for service; Fig. 2 .is a view of'the shoe the parts being shown as arranged for slipping over the foot of the wearer; Fig. 3 is a'perspective view of an overshoe constructed'in accordance with the present invention, and havlng a high upper or leg portion, the parts being shown as arranged for service; Fig. 4 is a similar view, the parts when not in service. x

The material from which the present invention is constructed is preferably a waterproof paper. The paper is molded to form being disposed ,as

a shoe toe portion 9 and a shoe heel portion-v 10. The two portions are formed from a' number of separate pieces suitably joined, or

from one piece, at the option of the manufacturer. Intermediate the toe portion and the heel portion, the sides are in part formed by connecting folds or gores 11. The gores 11 are flared fromthe arch 12 of the shoe, upward, and are provided adjacent the upper edge thereof with perforations 13. The erforations 13 areplaced to register with uttons 14 and snap caps 15. The buttons 14 and caps 15 are mounted. as seen in the drawings,'upon the material of the heel portion 10 and thetoe portion 9 adjacent said gores 11. When adjusting an overshoe thus constructed, to the foot, the heel portion and toe portion are bent away from each other to furnish a clear passageway for the shoe of the wearer into the toe portion of the overshoe thereby avoiding the need for stretching or otherwise accommodating the size of the opening in the overshoe' to.

When the invention is applied to overshoes resembling the arctic shoe of conventional' shape, having the leg portions 16, as seen best in Fig. 3 of the drawings, the length of the fold and the width of the gore portions 11 resting within the fold are increased, so that when adjusting the shoe thus made, to the foot of the wearer, the

heel portion of the, shoe. may be bent down to avoid interfering with the introduction of the foot of the wearer into the toe portion 9 of the overshoe. v

I prefer to use, in the manufacture of overshoes of the character disclosed, a suitable paper treated to render it impervious to water, and as far as possible, to withstand the abrasion or scuffing to which it may be subjected in use.

It will be understood that overshoes thus constructed are intended for transitory use, and not as a permanent article of wear. Many kinds of paper are made which have tensile strength s'uflicient to withstand the A usual wear to which shoes are subjected.
