$1 I L fi UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARRY I. CRAMPTON, OF NAUGATUGK, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE GOODYEARS METALLIC RUBBER SHOECOMPAN Y, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR AN OVERSHOE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 16,455, dated January 12,1886
Applicationifiled November 16, 1885. Serial No. 183,054. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HARRY I. CRAMPTON, of Naugatuck, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Design for Overshoes; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exactdescription of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-
Figure 1, a side view; Fig. 2, a top view.
This invention relates to a design for the class of overshocs in which the lower part is made of rubber and the upper part of cloth; and the design consists in the shape of the two parts, as hereinafter described, and shown in the accompanying illustration.
The upper edge of the body of the shoe, starting from the extreme rear at the heel, inclines each side gradually downward and forward to near the ball, where it turns upward and passes over theinstep. The lower edge of the upper portion follows the upper edge of the lower portion, beginning at the front and extending to the extreme rear at the heel, there being a head or border, a, following the line between the two parts, as shown in the accompanying illustration.
It will be understood that I do not claimas 30 a design a shoe formed in two parts, irrespect ive of the shape of the dividingline between the two parts, as the shape of that dividingliue, followed by the adjacent edges of the two parts, beginning at the upper edge at the 35 extreme rear, thence downward and forward and over the instep, as before described, is the distinguishing characteristic of my design.
I claim The herein-described design for overshoes, 40 consisting of the body, its upper edge starting from the top at the extreme rear or heel, inclined downward at each side to points near the ball, thence over the instep, with the upper portion, the lower edge of which follows 5 the same line to the extreme rear, and there dying out, with a border, a, following the line between the two portions, as shown and described.
IIARRY I. CRAMPTON.
