SHOE-TIP.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 741,567, dated October 13, 1903.
Application filed March 19, 1903.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES CHAPMAN TURNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Arcadia,'in the county of De Soto'and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Tips, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention has relation to shoe-tips; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts, as hereinafter shown and described.
The object of the invention is to provide a solid tip for shoes made of a suitable light and durable substance, such as wood, the tip being so located at the forward end of the sole as to protect the leather parts of the shoe and as a preventive for corns, bunions, &c. The vamp can be made of a smaller piece of leather, and thus a saving is eflected, and the tip is so located to take up the wear and tear, which is particularly desirable in shoes for infants and children. The tip may also be used for repairing purposes.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a shoe provided with the tip. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of a shoe provided with the tip. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a sole having the tip applied thereto. the lower portion of a shoe, showing the foot in dotted lines in position in the shoe in relation to the tip.
The vamp is made of a smaller piece of leather than is used in the ordinary shoe, for the reason that thesaid 'vamp does not ex-,, tend to the forward end of the sole, but is cut away at the lines 2. The tip 3 is made of solid substance, preferably wood, and is in shape substantially that of the point of a shoe. The forward edge 2 of the vamp 1 is nailed or otherwise secured to the rear portion of the upper surface of the tip 3, and the lower surface of. the said tip is in turn secured to the upper surface of the sole 4:. Having described my invention, what I claimas new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- J l 1. In combination with a shoe having a space between the forward edge of its vamp and the forward end of its s01e,'over which said vamp does not extend, a solid tip inserted in said space, its upper surface being substantially of the same contour as the shape of the vamp if said vamp were continued over said space to'the sole.
2. In combination with a shoe having a space between the forward edge of the vamp and the forward end of the solo, a solid tip' inserted in said space and being secured to the forward edge of the vamp and the sole, the rear edgeof said tip being out on a diagonal.
3. In combination with a shoe having space between the forward edge of its vamp and the forward end of its solo, a solid tip inserted in said space and being secured to the forward edge of the vamp: and the forward end of the sole, the forward edge of the vamp extending across the tip at substantially right angles to the longitudinal axis of the shoe, the rear edge of the tip extending under the forward edge of the vamp and being pitched at an oblique angle to the longitudinal axis of the shoe. 4. In combination with a shoe having a space between the forward edge of its vamp and the forward lendof its sole, a solid tip inserted in said space and being thickest vertically at its rear edge.
