To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, TIMOTHY OOROORAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brockton, in the county of Plymouth and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sporting-Shoes; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to makeand use the same. 7

This invention relates to an improved running or sprinting shoe.

The object of the invention is to provide a shoe of this character which is light and strong, and which will not hurt the foot of the wearer.

In the accompanying drawings ,'Figure 1 represents a top plan view of the cut-out blank; Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of the shoe lying on one side Fig. 3 represents an end elevation taken from the front.

In the embodiment illustrated the vamp, upper and shank are formed from a single piece blank 1, of leather or other sutable material with a portion cut out at the heel to form a V-shaped opening 2, separating the

heel members

3 and 4, and the adjacent edges of this opening are connected by a seam 11 to adapt it to fit the heel of the wearer. The sole portion 14 is cut out at 15 at the front thereof to form the

quarters

12 and 13, which are eyeleted as shown at 16 to receive the fastening string 17. The lower edges of the vamp or

quarters

12 and 13 are stitched or nailed to a tap sole 5, and are spaced apart at their front ends with a wide tongue 6 filling the space between them and extending on opposite sides thereof on their inner faces. This tongue 6 is also stitched to the tap 5 and to the opposite sides of the quarters of the vamp as shown at 7.

I The rear end 1 O of the tap 5 extends over the edge 9 of the opening 15 and is secured there-' to and to an inner sole 4 by stitching or nailing. The tap 5 is provided with the usual spurs as 8. The inner sole 4 is preferably made of flexible material and may if desired extend to the heel of the shoe as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2.

The shank portion of the upper and, sole is made in one piece without any seam which especially adapts the shoe for resisting strains and avoiding bursting at the seams, as is common with the ordinary runningshoe.

I claim as my invention:

A sprinting shoe formed from a one-piece blank of flexible material cut out at the heel and seamed to fit the foot with a cut-out portion in the front of the sole portion to form the quarters of the vamp, said quarters having connecting means along their outer edges, a tap sole secured to the lower edges of the quarters of the sole shank, and a tongue secured to said tap sole between the front ends of the quarters.
