fi y UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWIN C. LEWIS, OF IONIA, MICHIGAN.
DESIGN FOR A HOLDING-SPRING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 32,957, dated July 17, 1900.
Application filed May 4, 1900. Serial No. 15,468- Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWIN C. LEWIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ionia, in the county of Ionia and State of Michigan, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Holding-Spring; and I do hereby declare the following to bee full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
This invention relates to an original design for holding-springs, and is embodied in the particular form and shape hereinafter described, and shown in the accompanyingdrawings.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a top view. Fig. 2 is a side View of the spring.
The design consists, essentially, of a strip having its ends formed into eyes A A, from which extend the substantially-straight portions B. From the portions B the body portion E of the strip is bent at an angle and fashioned into coils C, and thence carried forward and formed into a tongue-shaped projection D, lying at an angle or oblique to the straight body portion E and toward or over the coils. The strip is bent at the tongue portion to substantially U shape, the opposite sides being of like formation.
The essential feature of the design is the strip having the coils, body portion, end portions B at an angle to the body portion, and the tongue, substantially as shown.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for a holding-spring, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDWIN C. LEWIS.
