DESIGN FOR A BODY-BOLSTER FOR RAILWAY-CARS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 32,821, dated June 12, 1900.
Application filed January 4, 1900. Serial No. 397. Term ofpatent 14 years.
To aZZ whom zit may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE S. HASTINGS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Body-Bolster for Railway-Cars, of which the following is a specification.
The essential feature of my invention re sides in the shape or configuration of the body-bolster hereinafter described.
In the drawings forming part of this specification, Figure l is a perspective elevation; Fig. 2, a plan view; Fig. 3, a section on the line 3 3, Fig. 2, lookingin the direction of the arrow; Fig. 4, a like view on thelineet, Fig. 2; and Fig. 5, a like View on the line 5 5, Fig. 2.
1 indicates the upper horizontal flange, 2 the lower horizontal flange, and 3 a centrallyloeated vertically-connecting web. Considered as a whole, thus including both flanges 1 2, the bolster has elevated ends and middle portions 4 4" 5 5 6 and depressed intermediate portions 7 8. The depressed portions-of the flange 1 are formed with lateral grooves 9, to which the web of the flange 1 converges from the elevated portions 4 5 6, as at 10 11. At the ends the flange 1 is dropped, as at 12*, to form a ledge 12, between which and the lower flange 2 is a longitudinal web 1-3. At the groove 9 the flange 1 is widened laterally, as shown at 13, and from the web 12" and flange 2 extend lateral ears 12". The flange 2 has lateral ears ]5, and between the flanges 1 2 the web 3 is provided with a vertical rib 16.
Having described my invention, I elaim- The design fora body-bolster, si'lbstantially as herein shown and described.
Signed at the city of Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, this 4th day of November, 1899.
