GEORGE MARTIN BRILL, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR A SEAT END FOR CAR-SEATS.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Design No. 23,803, dated November 13, 1894.
Application filctl October 9, 18 94- Serlal No. 525,432. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE MARTIN BRILL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Seat End for Gar-Seats, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the design for a seat and for cars, and consists in the shape or configuration of the same.
Reference is bad to theaccompanying drawings forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view; Fig. 2, a side elevation; Fig. 3, a side elevation on the side opposite Fig. 2; Fig. 4, a plan view of the under side reversing Fig. 1, and Fig. 5, a sectional elevation on the line m m, Fig. 4, looking in the direction of the arrow.
The seat and in plan is substantially rectangular and in side elevation disposed generally on that figure but altered by curves into a dumb-bell shape. It comprises two walls 1, 2, the wall 1 being vertical, and 2 horizontal, the side and bottom opposing both walls being open as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. The wall or top 2 is concave, and has curved or segmental and enlarged ends 3, which extend but a short distance in return, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. Midway between the ends 3 the wall or top 2 is provided with a rectangular aperture 4. The vertical wall 1 takes the shape in side elevation of that of the wall or top 2 where the two merge. The lower portion of the wall 1 is straight, as at 5, for a distance less than its entire length, and at the extremities of the straight sections 5 are two outwardly extending lugs or projections 6, which also depend below the bottom of the wall 1, and centrally between the projections 6 the said wall is curved upwardly, as at '7. Above the curved portion 7 the wall 1 is provided with circular apertures 8, and at the ends with larger apertures 9. The projections 6 are also provided with apertures 10.
From the projections 6 rearwardly and up wardly to the top wall 2 extend inclined ribs or webs 11; and within the ends 3, and extending vertically and midway transversely are ribs or webs 12; and extending rearwardly from the ribs 12 from near the top thereof, and at right angles thereto are wings 13, which are provided with apertures 14, as are also the ribs 12 provided with apertures 15.
It will be noticed by reference to Figs. 2 and 3 that the ribs and wings 12 and 13 extend out beyond the terminations of the curved ends 3, and that the apertures 9 in the wall 1 align with the apertures 15 in the rib 12.
Having described my invention, I claim- The design for a seat end for car seats, substantially as herein shown and described.
Signed at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, this 31st day of August, 1894.
GEORGE MARTIN BRILL.
