{Appliution mod. I". 11, 1099.
WITNESSES UNITED STATES PATENT O FICE.
EDWIN O. TOWNSEND, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A MONUMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 30,512, dated April 4:, 1899.
Application filed. March 11,1899. Serial No. 708.769. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN O. TOWNSEND, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Monument, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof, in which is represented a perspective View of a monument embodying the features of my de s1gn.
The leading feature of the design consists in a body surmounted by a cap having a concaved arched lower portion and an upper portion that inclines at all of its sides from a central upper ridge to fiat faces just above the arch of the lower portion of the cap. The body rests upon abase having a molding at the top, these surfaces being otherwise straight, and the base is supported upon a plinth having plain panels and an inclined upper edge.
In the details of the design the body is inclined from the base upwardly and is divided by plain borders into panels, While above the panels a continuous border is produced, the decorations of the continuous border being crossed scrolls, forming a' chain of oval figures inclosing spear figures, while rosette ures appear between the oval figures. The corners of the body are decorated with triangular intaglio panels. The concaved front and rear portions of the cap are ornamented by a group of roll figures, and where the front and rear panels of the inclined portion of the cap connect a representation of folds is produced.
I claim The design for a monument herein shown and described.
EDWIN O. TOWNSEND. Witnesses:
NATHALIA BONIFAOE, F. J HARROLD.
