SAD IRON.
(Application led Jan. 17 1399-) M QE c .nmmmnwnmnmnnmu 5, /Q @l ttozmm UNITED STATES `PATENT OEEICEi GEORGE'M. URIE, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
DESIGN FOR A SAD-IRON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 30,336, dated March 14, 1899;
Application led January 17, 1899. Serial No. 702,491. Term of patent 7 years.
To a/ZZ. whom t may concern.-
Beit known that I, GEORGE M. UME, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Sad-Irons, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a sad-iron, showing my new design. Fig. 2 is a plan view ofthe bottom, and Fig. 3 is a sectional View taken transversely of Fig. l on the line 3 3.
The body of the iron A is elliptical in plan View and its sides are somewhat slanted or flared -from the top down. The handle B is shaped approximately on the arc of a circle and is attached to projections on the iron-top.
The body of the iron is provided with a series of holes or openings a near the base and is out away at the top to form a slot C in conjunction with the top of the iron.
The contour of this slot or cut-away portion C is rectilinear in form and has at each end an angular continuation extending upward a short distance. This form of slotis secured by having the two side flanges c c of the top C smaller in dimensions than the embrasures a a2 in the sides of the iron into which they depend. These embrasures extend only a portion of the length of the sad-iron, and the latter is hollow, a's shown.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
The design for a sadiron, as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE M. URIE.
