HEAD UB FOOT FOR BEDSTEADS.
Patented Nov. 8, |898.
(Application and om. 9. 18x57.)
" UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
JOHN M. ADAMS, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DESIGN FOR A HEAD OR FOOI; FOR BEDSTEADS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 29,639, dated November 8, 1898.
Application filed October 9, 1897. Serial No. 654,726, Term of patent 7 years.
. Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented and produced a new, useful, and original Design for the Head 01 Foot of a Bedstead, of which the following is a specification.
In the accompanying drawing the figure is a perspective View of the head or foot of a bedstead embodying my design, the essential features thereof being shown in full lines and ancillary features in dotted lines.-
The head or foot of a bedstead embodying my design comprises posts or pillars A, an end rail A', and an open-work panel supported between the upper ends of the posts or pillars A, which in turn comprise transverse rods A2 A3, which connect said posts A at or adjacent to their tops, and between these ends, respectively, upright rods A,whicl1 connect said transverse rods A2 A3 adjacent to their ends, and rods or elements A5 A6 A7, supported upon said transverse rods A2 A3 and disposed so as to form asymmetrical ornamental design.
The essential feature of the head or foot of a bedstead of my design consists in the shape or configuration of the ornamental design formed by the elements A5 A6 A7, (shown in full lines in the drawing,) the element A5 forming the central portion thereof and the elements A6 A7 beingv in duplicate and being arranged or disposed correspondingly on opposite sides of said central element A5, so as to maintain the symmetry of the design.
bow or loop the sides of which meet at a point a, at which point they are attached to the rod A3, the curve of said bow or loop being reversed`at a' and merging into substantially straight end portions a, which diverge from thepoint a at a slight angle.
The elements A6 diverge upwardly and outwardly from the common point a, between which point and points as, at which they are attached to the transverse rod A2, they form substantially ogee curves, being convex toward the bow or loop formed by the elements As at their lower ends and convex toward said bow or loop at their upper ends. The portions of said elements A6 beyond the points a8 form curves continuous with the upper concave portions of said elements and form therewith coils or helices. The elements A7 likewise diverge upwardly and outwardly from the common point a. in upwardly-convex curves, terminating in coils or helices.
In general terms the ornamental design formed by the elements A5 A's A7 may be described as a Iieur-de-lis or lily design.
I claim- The design for the head or foot of a bedstead, substantially as hereinshown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I Vhave hereunto set my hand, this 2d day of October, 1897, in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN M. ADAMS.
