Description

(No Model.)
F. W. MERRILL. REFRIGERATING REGBPTAGLE.
No. 568,579. Patented Sept. 29, 1896.
UNITED STATES FRANK IV. MERRILL, OF DEERING, MAINE, ASSIGNOR TO THE E. T. BUR- ROWES COMPANY, OF PORTLAND, MAINE.
REFRIGERATlNG-RECEPTACLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 568,579, dated September 29, 1896.
Application filed April 2, 1896. Serial No. 585 ,958. (N model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK W. MERRILL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Deering, in the county of Cumberland and State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Refrigerating-Recepta- I ceptacles, and it is embodied in the construc- The invention is primarily intended for use in connection with what are known as ice-cream refrigerators, and it comprises a construction whereby the can or holding-receptacle may be firmly supported and conveniently removed from the box or casing.
In the drawings, wherein like letters of reference designate corresponding parts in the several views, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a can. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of a can and jacket, and Fig. 3 is a detail view of the removing-ring.
In the drawings, A designates a perforated jacket having the centering-ring B at its top. This jacket is adapted to be inserted in any convenient form of refrigerating-receptacle.
O designates the can, which is fashioned to fit within the jacket and has adjacent to its upper edge the divided supporting flange or flanges D D of a width sufficient to project over the edge of the jacket, which latter thereby serves as a support for the can. The flanges D extend but part way around the can on opposite sides, and the spaces between their adjacent ends form what may be properly termed grooves or ways, designated atd and located diametrically opposite each other.
E designates the lifting-rin g, fitting closely about the can and normally resting with its upper edge against the flanges D D. On diametrically opposite sides of the ring E are secured the handles H, the same consisting of the vertical sections f, which extend from the ring upward above the plane thereof, and the angle or lifting sections f, which are carried out substantially horizontal to points above and beyond the j aoket. The vertical portions of the handles extend through the grooves 01 to points above the flanges, by which means the flanges are permitted to rest entirely on the jacket without interference by the handles.
By the construction above described it will be seen that the can is evenly supported and can be readily lifted from the jacket.
hile a particular form of handle has been shown and described, it is to be understood that the same may be varied or changed in many respects without departing from the nature of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is- 4 The combination with separated can, having projections thereon, of a lifting-ring surrounding the can and resting against the projections, handles on the ring extending upwardly between and beyond the projections, and a support on which the projections rest, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in .presence of two witnesses.
' FRANK W. MERRILL.
