Description

D7463 OP D 289237 DESIGN.
No. 28,237. Patented Feb. 1, 1898. 0 89026 9 2, 7 m in Z 9i H O L W M} H iii if? m U UNITED STATES JAMES LELAND \YOODSIDE,
PATENT OFFICE.
OF IIA \VARDEN, IO \YA.
DESIGN FOR A CHIMNEY-CAP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 28,237, dated February 1, 1898.
Application filed December 23, 1897. Serial No. 663,270. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES LELAND W001)- SIDE, a citizen of the United States, residing at IIawarden, in the county of Sioux and State of Iowa, have invented a newand original Design for a Chimney-Cap, of which the following is a specification.
The leading feature of my design for a chimney-cap consists of adome substantially square in plan view, a marginal flange extending at right angles to the dome at the base thereof, and an annular or cylindrical cap which rises from the top of the dome.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan View of a chimney-cap showing my design. Fig. 2 is a side elevation. Fig. 3 is a vertical crossseetional view.
As shown by the drawings, my design for a chimney-cap consists of the dome 5, which, viewed in plan, is substantially square, a marginal flange b, projecting from the base of the dome, and an annular or cylindrical cap 7. The sides or walls of the dome are curved inwardly to join the flat top 8 of the dome, and from this flat dome-top rises the cylindrical cap. The diameter of the cap is less than the widthol the [lat top S,which presents a square outline when viewed in plan, and the annular cap lies within the marginal outline of the flat dome-top S. The upper edge of the an nular cap has an ornamental border consisting, preferably, of a series of notches forming a series of tongues; but this border is not material. The marginal flange I3 is square when viewed in plan, and it extends continuously around and outside of the marginal edges of the dome. Said marginal flangehas a series of circular apertures which, in addition to ornamenting the flange, also serves a mechanical function in embedding the flange in mortar to provide for the attachment of the cap to a chimney.
\Vhat I claim is The design for a chimneymtp herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JAMES LELAND \VOODSIDE.
