To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ANTHONY DOHERTY, J12, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baton Rouge, in the parish of East Baton Rouge and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp-Chimney Protectors; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention has relation to lamp-chimney protectors, and the object is to provide a simple device to cover the top of the chimney so as not to impede the draft'and at the same time prevent insects from dropping into the chimney; and to this end the novelty consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the same, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings the same letters of reference indicate the same parts of the invention.

Figure 1 is a view in perspective of my improved protector applied to an ordinary lampchimney, and Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same.

The protector or hood B is preferably globeshaped and is made of a single piece of suitable wire-gauze, with an annular flange 0 formed about its bottom part, which encompasses a similar sheet-metal flange O,-to which itis secured by rivets c c. This flange O is formed at a right angle to the horizontal flange D, extending outwardly around the outside of the base of the flanges O and O. This sheet-metal flange D is formed with a series By referring to Fig. 2 it will be seen that each integral arm d is first bent upwardly at an incline to almost a right angle, forming an inwardly-sloping portion a. It is then reversed upon itself and downwardly to form a spring-clip portion b, which assists in holding the protector centrally on the chimney after it has been adjusted thereto by the inwardlysloping portion a of the arms cl. When a larger-sized chimney is used, the sloping portion a springs outwardly to admit the top of the chimney, the protector being adapted to receive one from the size of the opening in the flange D down to the smallest size that the ends of the spring-arms will engage, the range being sufficient to embrace the ordinary sizes in common use.
