LAMP-BURNER ATTACHMENT.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 577,893, dated March 2, 1897. Application filed June 3,1896. serial No. 594,076. (No model.)

To ctZZ whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MARY ANNA VOLKEN- BATH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Huntington, in the county of Oabell and State of WVest Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp- Burner Attachments; and Ido hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in attachments to lampburners for holding the burner securely to the lamp and preventing the wick from comin g in the way while fillingthelamp. It comprises a shield or guard attached readily to the portion of the burner within the lamp and keeps the wick from becoming twisted and also serves to hold the burner to the bowl when the burner is turned down to permit of the filling of the lamp. It does not interfere with the cleaning of the lamp, as it is arranged inside the bowl.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear, and the novel features thereof will be specifically defined by the appended claims.

The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is an elevation showing the application of the invention with the burner turned down to permit of the filling of the lamp. Fig. 2 is a view of the attachment removed. Fig. 3 is a View of the burner with the attachment affixed thereto and the wick in position.

Like letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views.

Referring now to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the burner, of known construction, and B the wick.

My improvement comprises the guard 0, formed of a single piece of material, preferably wire, bent to form the loop portion a, which is attached to the lower end of the screw-threaded portion of the burner by solaid in keeping the wick offset at that point.

In practice when the burner is turned down -so as to disclose the opening in the upper end of the bowl of the lamp the ends of these spring-arms, which are bent over to form hooks, engage the upper edge of the screw threaded portion of the bowl and hold the burner against falling therefrom.

Modifications in detail may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the in vention or sacrificing any of its advantages.

What is claimed as new is- 1. An attachment to a lamp-burner having a loop for the passage of the wick and an 0&- set for throwing the wick out of the line of said loop and a portion to bear against the wick in proximity to the offset, as set forth.

2. An attachment for a lamp-burnerhaving a loop for the passage of the wick and an offset at its lower end, and spring-armsbearing against the wick above the oifset, as set forth.

3. An attachment for the purpose described formed of a single piece of material and comprising a loop at its upper end, depending arms with an offset at their lower ends, and spring-arms having their lower ends terminating in hooks, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
