BRACKET FOR MINERS LAMPS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 551,818, dated December 24;, 1895.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ADAM GOOD, of WVilkes- Barre, in the county of Luzerne, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Brackets for Miners Lamps, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to devices formounting or supporting miners lamps upon caps or other gearing for the head.

My object is to produce a device to be secured to the front of the hat or cap so arranged and constructed as to protect the cap from the lamp and at the same time allow the lamp to swing so as to occupy an upright position at all times, whether the position of the operator is stooping over or standing during work; and to that end my invention consists in the several new and novel features and combination of parts hereinafter described and which are specifically set forth in the claims hereunto annexed.

It is constructed as follows, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,in which- Figurel is a side view of the cap provided Fig. 2 is an isometrical view of the device upon which the lamp is mounted, detached.

A is a hat or cap, preferablyhaving a front piece or visor a.

B is the device or bracket, constructed substantially as shown, resembling the letter S in its general form, the upper end being quite short, and secured in any suitable manner to the under side of the plate I), which has its front end to project outward over the bracket B any suitable distance, and this projecting end is recessed so as to receive the upper end of the lamp-body. The front end of the plate I) projects out over the visor not only to catch upon opposite sides of the body to prevent it from swaying or swinging, but to form a support and brace for the upper ends of the wires 0. The central portion 1) of the bracket extends down the front edge of the cap and b extends outwardly along the upper edge of set forth, and mounted upon the portion b is secured a piece of leather or similar material 6 having a central perforation e.

The lamp O is provided with a hook f and is adapted to pass down through the opening e, thence through the portion 1), there being a perforation therein concentric with the portion 6.

When the lamp is mounted upon the bracket by passing the hook through the perforation e the lamp will assume the position shown in Fig. l. The perforated piece of leather or similar material 6 is used so as to avoid the noise which would naturally result, were the hook brought directly in contact with the metal bracket. When, however, the operator bends forward the lower end of the hook will be allowed to pass out through the opening 01 so that whatever the position of the operator, whether in an erect position or bending over, the lamp will occupy its normal position.

Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-- 1. A lamp bracket, having its top project outward a suitable distance over the visor of the cap to which it is secured, and having the outer end of this top portion recessed to receive the upper portion of the body of the lamp, combined with the curved wires chaving their upper ends secured to the project ing ends of the top, and their lower ends to the body of the bracket, substantially as shown.

2. A lamp bracket, consisting of the top plate I), which is to be secured to the cap at its rear end and which has its recessed front end to project outward beyond the central portion of the bracket; the central portion 1) which is secured at its top to the under side of the plate I) and is provided with a recess or opening d; and the lower portion Z), combined with the perforated leather plate 6 secured to the top plate; and the curved wires a secured at their upper ends to the projecting ends of the plate I) and at their lower ones to the central portion b of the bracket, substantially as described.
