To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE H. ALBERT- soN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Deodorizing Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to a deodorizing device, particularly adapted to use in connection with water closet bowls, and has for its object to provide means, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, whereby, when the bowl is flushed the water will take up a quantity of deodorant, under such conditions providing a deodorizing action when the bowl is flushed.

Further objects of the invention are to provide a deodorizing device which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, eflicient in its use, conveniently associated with the water closet bowl whereby when the bowl is flushed a quantity of deodorant will be taken up, setting up a deodorizing action, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claim hereunto appended.

In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views :-Figure 1 is an elevation, partly in section and partly broken away of a water closet bowl showing the adaptation therewith of a deodorizing device in accordance with this invention, Fig. 2 is a section on line XX Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is a perspective, view of a deodorizmg device in accordance with this invention, Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one of the hanger members of the device, and Fig. 5 is a sectional detail.

Referring to the drawings in detail, 10 denotes a water closet bowl, 11 the water discharge passage thereof and 12 the outlets for said water discharge passage. The water supply inlet for the passage is indicated at 13.

A deodorizing device in accordance with this invention includes a cylindrical member 14 which is open at each end and which is segment-shaped in plan, the top of said member 14 is formed with spaced trans versely extending slots 15, which when said member is positioned with respect to the outlets 12 are arrangedin such position with respect to said outlets that the water discharged through the outlets 12 can enter the member 14 through the slots 15. The member 14 is adapted to contain a body of deodorant and said member 14, centrally of its bottom is provided with an opening 16.

Each end of the member 14 is closed through the medium of an imperforate cap 17, the rim thereof frictionally-engages with the periphery of the member 14 whereby the caps are maintained in position. The device further includes a plurality of hanger members which are utilized for connecting the member 14 to the bowl and are further employed for suspending the member 14 in proximity to the outlets 12 of the water discharge passage 11, as clearly illustrated in.

Figs. 1 and 2. Each of the hanger members consists of a loop 18, which is mounted upon the member 14 in proximity to a cap 17. The diameter of the loop 18 with respect to the diameter of the rim of the cap 17 is such that the loop 18 will abut against said rim to prevent the loop passing off of the member 14. The loop 18 terminates in an inclined arm 19, which opposes an inclined arm 20, the said arms inclining toward each other and merge into a spring loop 21, the function of the latter being to spread the arms 19 and 20 with respect to each other. The arm 20 terminates at its lower end in a right angularly disposed finger piece 22. When the hanger member is mounted upon the member 14, the loop 18 extends at right angles with respect to the loop 20. The hanger members which are mounted upon the member 14 are adapted to extend up through a pair of outlets 12 and the spring loop 21 into the passage 11. The loop 21 will spread the arms 19 and 20 to engage the end walls of an outlet 12, under such conditions connecting the member 14 to the bowl. When the hanger members are in position to suspend the member 14, the finger pieces 22 engage the lower face of that portion of the bowl which is provided with the outlets 12.
