To alhwhom it may concern.-
Be itknown that I, SAMUEL W. HOLT, of Everett, county of Middlesex, State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Supporting Devices for Curling -Tongs, of which the'following description,in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a speci fication, like letters on the drawings representing like parts.
This invention has for its object to construct a device for supporting a pair of curling tongs over a gas jet, or lamp, in order that it may be heated.
In accordance with this invention a piece of sheet metal is shaped and formed to present a hole to receive the tongs, and clamping fingers to engage the top of an ordinary lamp chimney, and also a hole to receive the tongs as well as an additional support for said tongs when the device is used in conjunction with or applied to a gas jet, in the latter instance the hole which is used to receive the tongs when used in conjunction with a lamp beingemployed to receive said gas jet.
Figure 1 shows a side View of the device applied to a lamp-chimney and supporting a pair of ordinary curling-tongs; Fig. 2, a side view of the device applied to a gas-jet supporting the curling-tongs, and Fig. 3 a per spective View of thedevice.
As herein shown the entire device is made of a single piece of sheet metal, although my invention is not to be so confined.
The main parta, of the plate, made circular in shape as shown has a hole I) through it for the curling tongs, around which hole and projectingdownwardly from the under side of the plate is formed a wall 12, to assist in steadying the tongs as Well as for other reasons.
Clamping fingers a, project from one side of the part a which engage one side of the top of the chimney, and clamping ears or fingers d, project from the opposite side of the part a, which engage the opposite side of the said chimney.
The device is applied to the chimney by drawing it on transversely, and the tongs supportedin the hole 17 as shown. When applying the device to a gas jet, the said jet or burner passes up through said central hole b, and a hole 2 is provided at one side of the part a, which receives the tongs and presents them diagonally to the flame.
A portion f projects from one side of the part a which is bent down and provided atits lower end with an upturned pointed end portion which enters the crotch of the tongs and thereby additionally supports them in such diagonal position. At such time the clamping fingers will not be employed.
I claim- 1. In a support for curling tongs, the part a, having a central hole I) through it with a downwardly projecting wall Z), surrounding said hole, and clamping fingers c and d to engage a lamp chimney, substantially as described.
2. In a support for curling tongs, the part 01, having a central hole I) through it, the portion f projecting from said part a, and bent 7o downwardly, and having an upturned end, and a hole e at one side of said hole a, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
