RECEPTACLE-GLOSURE.
Application filed May 13, 1907.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, FRANCIS P. WILBUR and Eonn B. MAnsHALL, citizens of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, county of Milwaukee, and State of VVisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Receptacle-Closures, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in closures for wooden receptacles, and the same is explained by reference to the accompanying drawings.
1 is the receptacle, which is provided near its upper end with an annular groove 8,
. which groove is found within the plane of its exterior surface and extends partially through the wall of the receptacle, while the opposite interior wall of the receptacle is formed upon the same uniform plane throughout between its upper and lower ends.
2 is a flat receptacle cover, which extends directly across the mouth of the receptacle and rests upon the upper edge of the same.
3 is a cover retaining collar, which is angular in cross section. The upper horizontal member of the collar 3 rests upon the upper surface of the cover 2, while the vertical member extends down past the upper end of the receptacle and is adapted, when the cover is in place, to be bent or curved inwardly so as to engage against, the upper Specification of Letters Patent.

The cover retaining collar 3 is preferably formed of a single piece of sheet metal bentin a circular shape, when its ends are connected together in any convenient manner, preparatory to being put in place upon the receptacle.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The combination with a wooden bucket having an annular groove cut in its outer surface near the upper margin of its side walls, the said margin being trimmed to provide a cover receiving surface, a disk shaped cover resting flat upon said margin, and a retaining band having a vertical por tion encircling the upper portion of the bucket and cover, with its lower margin turned abruptly inwardly and engaging in said groove, and its upper margin turned inwardly at righ angles to its vertical portion and engaging the upper surface of the cover.
