A li ti fil d December 18, 1897. $erial No, 662,494. Term of patent 3i years.
To (1. who? 11m. (minim/'11,.-
to it known that I, FRANK ll. LA PIERRE, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Orange, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Brush or Mirror Back; and I do hereby declare the follow ing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which forms a part of this specification.
The single figure of the drawing is a plan of a brush or mirror back for toilet use of my new design and is deemed sufficient for the purpose of illustrating the same.
As shown in the drawing, the leading or material feature of the design consists of the raised ornaments embracing scrolls and roses arranged as shown and now to be described.
At the end opposite the handle of the brush or mirror back a is a central scroll b, the incurved opposite ends b b of which extend backward toward a plain or smooth center of the back. At the opposite ends of the said scroll the back is ornamented with roses d d and leaves 6 6. Next in order toward the op.- posite side edges of the back a are oppositelyfaeing scrolls f g and f g, the scrolls f f of each pair having their concayities and turned ends lying outward toward the edge of the back and the scrolls 1 having their ends turned inward, the scrolls of each pair lying end to end. At or closely near the centers of the lateral convexities h, outlining the opposite sides of the bodyof the back a and next in order of ornamentation, the said back has the rose-shaped configurations i i and leaves which are followed by the pairs of oppositelyfacing scrolls L: l it: E. The int-urned ends of the scrolls Z l approach closely one another at the shank of the handle, with small flower shapes m m in the angles formed by the adjacent ends. The shank n of the back a is ornamented by scrolls 0 o p and the enlargement of the handle by the rose-shaped figure q and scrolls r r, the concavities of which face inward bordering a plain field 3. The extremity of the handle is ornamented by a shell-shaped figure 6.
That I claim as new is- The design for a brush or mirror back, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 9th day of October, 1897.
