HARRY VIACHENHEIMER, on rnovinmrcn, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOLR. TO .WACHEN- HEIMER 1330s.. A FIRM coMPosEDfoF "JACOB, 'WACHENHEIMER AND SAMUEL PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
HARRY, WACHENHEIMER, or
BAR-PIN."
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented 0017,19,
Application filed May 24, 1916. Serial No. 99,690.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY WACHEN- HEIMER, of Providence, county of Providence, and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bar-Pins; and I do hereby declare the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming a part of the same, to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
The invention relates to bar-pins and the method of making the same, and has for its principal object the production of a pin of this character'in which the body-portion of the pin is made from a single piece of metal, which greatly reduces the cost of manufacture. Another object of the invention is to provide the pin with a solid gem-support and perforated side-members formed integral with the body of the pin.
To these ends the invention consists of the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and more particularly set forth in the claims.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be made to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a bottom plan view of one of the blanks from which the body of the pin is formed;
Fig. 2 is an end view thereof;
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the blank showing the second step in the construction of the pin;
Fig. 4 is an end view thereof;
Fig. 5 is a bottom plan view of the bodyportion after the side-members have been bent up into position;
Fig. 6is an end view of the same;
Fig. 7 is a top plan view of a completed in; p Fig. 8 is a side view of the same;
Fig. 9 is a bottom plan view of the same;
Fig. 10 is an end view of the same;
Fig. 11 is a transverse sectional view on line wm of Fig. 8;
Fig. 12 is a top plan view of a modified construction where the front of the pin is left plain.
Referring to the drawing, the blank 1 isi to secure by Letters flange-members 3 at right angles to the face of the body-portion as shown in Fig. 5. An end-bar 6 is secured upon the cut-away end of the V-shaped rib 2 and is of a suitable thickness to be flush with the free ends of the side-members, as shown in Fig. 10, and
a suitable hinge-member 7 and catch-member 8 are secured upon the V-shaped rib 2. Formed in the front face of the body-member is a series of conical cavities 9 in which suitable gems or ornaments 10 may besecured.
With the above construction it will be seen that the longitudinal grooves 4 permit the flange-members 3 to be easily bent up to form the side-members on the completed pin, and the V-shaped rib 2 not only strengthens the body-portion of the pin, but also forms a suitable mounting for the stones, which is formed integral with the body-portion of the pin.
It will be understood that when a gem or ornament is not desired, the cavities 9 may be omitted and the front face of the body-portion may be left plain, as shown in Fig. 12 or ornamented in any desired manner.
What I claim as m invention and desire atent is:
1. A gem setting comprising a body-portion having an integral V-shaped rib formed upon the back thereof, two side-members formed integral with said body-portion, a series of openings in said side-members, a hingeand catch-member mounted upon said V-shaped rib and a pin-tongue pivoted in said hinge-member.
2. A gem setting comprising a body-portion having an integral V-shaped rib formed upon the back thereof, two perforated sideof said body-portion, a hingeand catchmember secured upon said V-shaped rib and a pin-tongue pivoted in said hinge-member.
3. An article of the character described comprising a body-portion having an integral V-shaped rib formed upon the back thereof, a series of cavities in the face of said rib, two perforated side-members bent up at right angles to the face of said bodyportion, two end-bars secured upon said V- shaped rib and flush with the free ends of said side-members, a hingeand catch-member, and a pin-tongue pivoted in said hingemember.
