UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES C. COVERT, Oh \VA'lERYLIE'l, NEW YORK.
DESIGN FOR A HOOK-CASTING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 26,540, dated January 19, 1897.
Application filed December 17, 1896, Serial No. 616,074. Term oi'patent14 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES C. COVERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at \Vatervliet, (formerly \Vest Troy,) in the county of Albany and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design fora Hook-Casting; and I do hereby declare the following to bea full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
This invention relates to an original design fora, hook-casting, and is embodied in the con struetion hereinafterdescribed, and shown in the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
In the drawings, Figure l is an elevation of the casting embodying the design, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
The casting comprising the design consists in the barrel or body portion A, having the side flanges or wings a and the slightly-tapered rear B. The portion B is curved downward and laterally upward in a compound curve, forming an open eye The upper end section of the eye is located, as shown, laterally beyond the plane of the side of the body portion, and the same terminates at a point substantially in line with a protruding or fiatfaced lug D on the end of the section B.
E designates the hook-section, which is looped downward and outward, the end or point section being bent upward and laterally outward in a substantially oblique direction.
The point of the hook terminates on a plane substantially that of the upper surface of the barrel, and the inclination of the point-section is in a direction opposite to that of the eye-section. Such, however, is not essential, as the eye may be bent in the opposite direction, as shown in dotted lines, Fig. .3. The hook may also be bent in the opposite direction, as shown in dotted lines, Fig. *2.
The essential features of the design a re the casting formed with the lateralLv-bent eye and hook sections and the winged or flanged body section.
The size and length of the portion ll may obviously be varied without departing from the general features of the design.
Having thus described the new and original design, what is claimed, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is
The design for a hook-casting, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
