HENRY I. WEALE, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR A PACKING FOR PIPES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 26,512, dated January 12, 1897.
Application filed December 3, 1896. Serial K 614,364. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY P. \VEALE, of
. Boston, (Roxbury,) in the county of Suifolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Packings for Pipes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and original design for packings for pipes, of which the following is a specification.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying sheet of drawings, forming a part of this application.
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the packing, showing my design. Fig. 2 represents a sectional view thereof 011 the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
The leading feature of my design consists of a series of polygonal-shaped figures, arranged one within the other and united together by bars, the sides composing the said figures having edges arranged at an angle to the plane occupied by said figures.
00 represents the packing for joints in pipes, composed of a series of polygonal-shaped figures in, here shown as parallelograrns, and whose sides are preferably rectangular in cross-section. These figures are arranged one within the other and in the same plane, as shown, and united by bars y. These bars are the same shape in cross-section as the sides of the figure. The packing is formed with an aperture 2 at the center, and with apertures z in the body, of the design. One of the diagonals of the sides of the figures is arranged at an angle to the surface of the packing, or the plane occupied by the figures.
The design appears to the eye of the observer as a series of parallelograrns, whose sides are rectangular in cross-section, the figures being arranged in the same plane and bound together by bars.
I claim- The design for packings for pipes, as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses, this th day of November, A. D. 1896.
HENRY P. WEALE.
