DESIGN FOR A BACK AND HANDLE FOR MIRRORS, 81,0.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 26,422, dated December 22, 1896.
Application filed October 1896. Serial No. 608,528 Term of patent 3' years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, PHILEMON U. DICKIN- sON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State 5 of New Jersey, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Backs and IIandles of Mirrors and Similar Articles, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the drawingaccompanyin I0 and forming a part of the same.
The general outline of the back is circular, and the general outline of the handle is of I yrate form.
The motive or style of the surface decoration of the back of the mirror is of conventionalized roeoeo order, consisting of a broad band practically covering the entire surface of the back except for the relatively small plain or bare surface A and composed of an enrichment of irregularly-repeated scrolls, shells, flowers, and leaves. Thus I I indi cate scrolls of differing design surrounding the plain space A, and C C are scroll-shells in support of the same, while D is a basilar scalloped shell, E various foliate shells, and
F various forms of flowers, all variously interwoven and joined together by a variety of scrolls, such as (I, as shown in theacemnpa- I nying drawing.
The characteristic ornamentation of the handle consists of flowers II, located on the face of the lower portion of the same, the shell .I, located between thearmsot' the same, the incurving scrolls .I, and the outn'ardhvcurving scrolls I\", arranged to lie against: and conform to the circular edge of the back of the mirror, as shown in the aecompalrving drawing.
What is claimed as new is- 1. In thedesign herein set forth, the design for the back of a mirror orsimilar article, sub stantially as shown and described.
2. In the design herein set forth, the design for the handle of the back of a mirror orsiniilar article, substantially as shown and described.
