To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GILBERT L. CRowELL, J r., a citizen of the United States, residing at Arlington, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented and produced a new and original Design for the Backs of Brushes, Mirrors, and other Articles, of which the following is a description, reference be= ing had to the accompanying drawing, which illustrates the design.
The drawing shows a representation of the back of a brush and handle thereof ornamented with my design.
The general outline of the brush is of ovate form. On the upper portion of the brushback is the representation of the head of a satyr A, flanked by designs of fruit B and eonventionalized leaves C. At the lower end of the back is the shield D, supported by the heraldic lion-head figures E and embellishment of scrollwork F.
The outline of the handle of the back is spatulate, and at the lower end thereof is the scrollwork G, supporting the series of conventionalized lotus flowers II, which gradually diminish in size in conformity with the outline of the handle.
The essentials of design of the back of the brush are the satyr-head, the shield-like figure, and the heraldic devices of lion-heads.
The essential features of design of the handle consist of the scroll figure of the lower portion thereof and the series of lotus flowers.
\Vhat is claimed as new is- The design for the back of a brush, mirror or similar article, substantially as shown and described.
