SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 29,218, dated August 16, 1898.

To all whont it many concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY A. WEIHMAN, of the city and county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and,
5 original Design for the Backs of Brushes or Similar Articles, of which the following is a specification.
My design is shown in the accompanying drawing, which is a plan view of a hair-brush 10 back and handle having my design applied.
One portion of the design resides in the surface ornamentation of the body portion of the back of the brush, mirror, or similar toilet article. The upper portion A of the ornamentation is a modified Louis XIV pattern,
composed of the fluted portions a a on opposite sides, bordered by the foliate ornamenfations b b, meeting at the top and capped by the floral ornamentation O, with the borderings d cl of beading upon the inner edge of the fluting a a, the whole inclosing an unornamented center a. The lower portion B is a modified Renaissance ornamentation, composed of a conventional oak-leaf pattern f f,
2 5 extending upward from the base on each side of the unornamented center 6 and capped at the base by a floral pattern g.
Another portion of the design resides in the surface ornamentation of the handle 0. This consists of combined Louis XIV and Renaissance patterns, composed of fiutings h h on opposite sides of the outer portion of the handle, bordered on the outside by foliate ornanientations 11 1', meeting at the top and capped by a floral ornamentation j, the whole inclosiug an unornamented central portion is, with a conventional foliate or oak-leaf ornamentation Z ext-ending forward from the stem of the handle to the fluted portions 7t it.

The design for the back of a brush or similar article substantially as shown and described.
