Description

DIP-912 DESIGN.
A. W. RICH. noo'r. No. 26,930.
Patented Aug. 11, 1896.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADOLPHUS Vt. RICH, OF MILXVAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
DESIGN FOR A BOOT.
T0 at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ADOLPHUS W. RICH, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Boots, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a boot, showing features of my design; and Fig. 2 is a view from above of the boot shown in side elevation in Fig. 1.
The leading feature of my design consists in the peculiar shape and configuration of the exterior surface of the boot over and adjacent to the instep thereof, produced and existing in and by the contour and arrangement of the parts, formed of material of varying colors or shades and appearance.
The rear edge of the vamp A has an upwardly and rearwardly extending point B at the front centrally, and therefrom curves forwardly and away from the point B at both sides thereof, and then curves rearwardly, and again abruptly laterally as it continues away from said central point.
The facings O G of the separated edges of the upper D, from meeting or closely adjacent lines at the front centrally at a distance rearwardly and upwardly from the point B, curve away abruptly on both sides downwardly and then forwardly and slightly laterally for a distance, gradually increasing the sharpness of the curves laterally until these edges of the upper meet the edge of the vamp A at a distance to the right and left from the central point B. The facin gs C G, which are rather narrow and overlap the principal part of the upper D, are scalloped along their rear edges opposite and adjacent to those portions of the front edges thereof above described.
The edge of the vamp A and the complemeniary or opposite edges of the facings C G, hereinbefore described, overlap the insteppiece E, which is of diiferent shade and appearance from either the vamp or the facings, and is thereby made to appear like a sunken panel, or panel in intaglio, having the irregular curved but symmetrical form shown in the drawings. The quarters F may also have the scalloped upper edge shown in Fig. 1.
What I claim is The design for a boot substantially as here in shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ADOLPHUS \V. RICH. Witnesses:
O. T. BENEDICT, CHARLES H. KUNEY.
