JAMES HENRY VALENTINE, OF CHATIIAM, NEW JERSEY.
DESIGN FOR A BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 23,466, dated July 17, 1894.
Application filed June 16, 1894 Serial No. Term of Patent 14 years- .T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES HENRY VALEN- TINE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ohatham, in the county of Morris and State of New Jersey, have invented or produced a certain new and original Design for Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
This design relates particularly to square bottles or those having rectangular sides, and is especially adapted for poison or medicine bottles.
The new design is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation looking at one corner of the bottle and showing two adjacent sides thereof. Fig. 2 is a side elevation looking at the diametrically opposite corner of a square bottle; and Fig. 3 is a cross-section of the body of the bottle, in which view the arrow 1 shows the point from which the bottle is viewed in Fig. 1, and the arrow 2 shows the point from which the bottle is Viewed in Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, the bottle has a body A and a neck B. The body A is foursided, and substantially square in cross-section. It has two adjacent smooth plain sides or walls 0 O disposed substantially at right angles each to the next, and two opposite adjacent rough walls D D disposed substantially at right angles each to the next, and each disposed substantially at right angles to one of the plain walls 0. Thus each rough wall is diametrically opposite one smooth wall. Between the walls are narrow corners G. On the walls I) are roughenings or projections E in vertical rows from top to bottom of the walls. These projections are of pyramidal shape, disposed in double rows at each side of the middle of each rough wall, and between the projections is a vertical band F on each rough wall. The corners are in the planes of the outer walls of the external row of projections. The walls 0 C are smooth plain walls throughout the length of the body.
When observed from one corner as seen in Fig. 1, the bottle has the appearance of a plain smooth bottle. When viewed in the opposite direction, it has the appearance of a roughened bottle. Vthen viewed at an angle of ninety degrees to either of these directions, it has the appearance of a bottle one side of which is smooth and the other side of which is rough.
What I claim is The design for a bottle substantially as shown and described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JAMES HENRY VALENTINE.
