H. W. GREENE. GLASS DOOR PLATE.
Patented May 1, 1894.]

HENRY \rVADE GREENE, OF NORTH DANA, ASSIGN OR OF ONE-HALF TO JOHN F. BARNES, OF PETERSHAM, MASSACHUSETTS.
GLASS D:OOR-=PLATE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No; 519,256, dated May 1 189$. Application filed April 21, 1893. Serial No. 4.711 (N m To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY WADE GREENE,
a citizen of the United States, residing at North Dana, in the county of Worcester andv State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in GlassDoor-Plates,
of which the following is a specification.
The aim of this invention is to provide a simple ornamental door-plate, and to this end,
the invention consists of the device described and claimed in this specification, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the preferred form of my improved door-plate. Fig. 2 is a section of the same on line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 4 is a side sectional elevation taken on the line 4*4: of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a rear elevation of the front part of my improved door-plate, and
i Fig. 6 is a sectional elevation representing a this base has extensions B-B, whichhave plate in place.
holes 0 formed therein through which screws may be passed to properly secure the door While it is preferred to make this base A-out of glass so that. the entire structure can be made of glass, it is evident, of course, that this frame A may be made out of any other suitable material.
The front part D of myimproved door-plate, I term the cover, and the same consists of a heavy piece of plate-glass, as shown, which has beveled edges E, as shown, around the outside of the same, and which has on the back side, ribs F, F and F extending around three sides of the same, whereby there will be left a space K between the base A and the cover D, and into this space K, a card G, having the desired name or matter printed thereon, or an engraved plate can be inserted, as shown. The cover D has its three edges F, F and]? cemented to the base A, whereby the door-plate will form a complete merchantable article in one piece. It will be seen that a door plate formed in this manner presents a very attractive appearance, as the ribs F, F and F are preferably arranged under the bevels E, so that the cement will not be noticeable through the cover D.
In some cases, I contemplate making the door-plate in one solid cast piece of glass, consisting of an integral cover 11 and base H, as shown in Fig. 6.
It will be seen that my invention is simple and easy of manufacture, and presentsa very attractive and ornamental door-plate.
While I have described myinvention specifically as applied to a door-plate, it is evident, of course, that in its broadest sense, my invention is a sign-holder, and may be used for other purposes, besides that of a door-plate, as for example, my device may be used on boxes and drawers to indicate the contents thereof, and may be used for a variety of other purposes.
The details, size, shape, and design of the device herein shown and described may be greatly varied by a skilled mechanic without departing from the scope of my invention, as expressedin the claims.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- V 1. A door-plate formed of a rear or base section, and a cover which joins the base section at its top, bottom, and one side, forming a door plate which is thus. provided with a pocket into which a card or sign can be inserted from one end, substantially as described.
2. A glass door-plate consisting of a base section and of atop section havinga top, bottom, and a side rib, which are cemented to the base section, thus forming a door plate into which a card or sign can be insert-ed from one end, substantially as described.
3. A door-plate consisting of abase section having perforated lugsto receive .the securing screws, and atop section having a top, bottom In testimony whereof I have hereunto set and side rib, which are cemented to the base my hand in the presence of two subscribing section, the top section having its edges bevwitnesses.
eled to conceal the joint, thus forming a door- HENRY WADE GREENE. 5 plate having a pocket into which a card or Witnesses:
, sign can be inserted from one end, substan- LOUIS W. SOUTHGATE,
tially as described. 7 E. M. HEALY.
