WILLIAM WALLACE JACKSON, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO THE A. D. FARMER & SON TYPE FOUNDING COMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A FONT OF PRINTING-TYPE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 22,437, dated May 16, 1893.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM WALLAoE JACKSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a certain new, useful, and original Design for a Font of Printing- Types, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This design relates to a font of printing types, and consists essentially in heavy faced type combining elements closely akin to the ancient cuneiform characters and a sort of back-handed shading in the curved lines.
In the accompanying drawing forming part hereof, I have shown a lower and an upper case alphabet and also aline of numerals and other characters usually comprised in a font of type. As shown, for example, in the stem 0 Application filed March 14, 1893- Serial No, 465 975- Term of atent 3% years.
of the lower case a, there is a combination of cuneiform characters and in the curve of that letter is the back-handed shading. The upper case A shows very distinctly the cuneiform characteristics, While both the upper and the lower case C show a union of the cuneiform and back-handed shading. All of the characters are heavy-faced, and exhibit, in greater or less degree, this and the other essential features of my design. What I claim is g The design for a font of printing types, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 11th day of March, A. D. 1893.
WILLIAM WALLACE JACKSON. Witnesses:
