DESIGN FOR A COVER-DISH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 22,231, dated February 21, 1893.
Application filed January 13, 1893. Serial No. 458,300- Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES EDWARD HAVI- LAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Limoges, in the Republic of France, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Cover-Dish and other Articles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanyiug drawings, forming part thereof, and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a dish bearing my design. Fig. 2 is a top view of a detached portion of same, the cover being regroged, and Fig. 3 is a top view of the said The leading features of my design consist (first) of the ornamental form and configuration of the dish and its cover, and (second) of the said dish and cover having surface ornarnention of the kind and displayed in the manner substantially as shown in the drawlngs.
The dish is shallow, and the sides thereof from a point on a line with the lower edge of their vertical portion curve gracefully to a base-rim A. The vertical portion of the sides of the dish contains the vertical grooves B, which sub-divide the said sides into the seal loped sections C, D, alternating with each other, the sections 0 having a convex outer surface and the sections D having at their center a depressed or concave surface, as shown more clearly in Fig. 2.
Upon the vertical sides of the dish is the surface ornamentation composed of the conventionalized foliate scroll figures E, in relief, and thereverselytrendingscrolls Fin intaglio. The figures E, F, are mainly in the grooves B and adjacent portions of the sections 0,1), while along the upper edge of each section 0 is the additional foliate scroll figure G, as shown in Fig. 1.
Upon opposite sides of the dish are handles H, and upon the top of the dish is the cover l,which along its outer portion has the grooves J subdividing said portion into the scalloped sections K, L, the former having a convex surface and the latter a depressed or concave surface. The grooves J and sections K, L, correspond with the grooves Band sections D, O, of the body of the dish,and upon the grooves J and sections K, L,of the cover are the ornamental scroll figures M, N, 0, corresponding with the ornamental figures E, F, G, on the body of the dish. At the center of the cover is the circular elevation P, and upon this elevation is the cover handle Q.
\Vhat I claim is The design for a coverdish or other article, substantially as shown and described.
