UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES EDlVARD HAVILAND, OF LIMOGES, FRANCE.
DESIGN FOR A CUP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 22,202, dated February '7, 1893.
Application filed January 13, 1893. Serial No. 458,299. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES EDWARD HAVI- LAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Limoges, in the Republic of France, have invented and produced a. new and original Design for a Cup or other Article, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof, and in which Figure 1 isaperspective view of acupbearing mydesign; Fig. 2 is a bottom view of same, and Fig. 3 is a detached section of a part of same on the dotted line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
The leading features of my design consist of the shape of the body of the cup, and the ornamentalcon fignrations thereon,as illustratedin Figs. 1 and 2,without regard to the special form of the handle A which forms no absolutely essential part of either the cup or the design. The body of the cup curves gracefully from its upper edge to the base B and bears the pairs of grooves C extending from the base B to a point adj aoent the upper ornamental edge of the cup. The grooves C divide the body of the cup on its surface into the larger and smaller alternating sections D, E, respectively, the sections D having aconvex eifect, while the sections E are slightly concave, as illustrated more clearly in Fig. 2.
Along the upper edges of the cup are provided at suitable intervals the ornamental scroll figures F curving slightly downward, and the scrolls G which extend in a direction opposite to that of the scrolls F, as illustrated in Fig. 1. The ornamental scrolls F, G, are in intaglio.
What I claim is:
The design for a cup or other article, sub stantially as shown and described.
Signed at the city of Limoges, in the Republic of France, this 27th dayof December,1892.
CHARLES EDWARD IIAVILAND. Witnesses:
