AU 292 @x DESIGN.
A. ROSENSTEIN. CANE 0R UMBRELLA HANDLE.
510.20.163. Patented Sept. 23, 1890.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT ROSENSTEIN, OF LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR A CANE OR UMBRELLA HANDLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 20,163, dated September 23, 1890.
Application filed August 1 1890. Serial No. 360,675. Term of patent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT ROSENSTEIN, of Lancaster, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Designs for Cane, Umbrella, or Parasol Handles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in designs for cane, umbrella, 0r parasol handles; and it consists in the novel shape and con figuration of parts, whereby a pleasing and beautiful eifect is produced, as will be more fully described hereinafter.
The accompanying photographic illustration represents my invention.
A represents the main or vertical portion of the handle, which has its upper or outer end divided into two curved branches or parts B 0, one of which is longer than the other. Each of these branches has a groove formed along near its inner edge, and in this groove is formed the chasing, as shown. Each of the ends of these branches terminates in a volute D.
At the inner end of the handle are formed a number of curved raised scrolls F, of any desired pattern. Above the scroll is formed a small bead or flange G, and above this bead or flange is formed a larger bead or flange I. There are three of these beads or flanges I, which are separated any suitable distance from each other by the corrugated or fluted portions J, the corrugations or flutes extending in a line with the handle. Above the upper large flange is a small bead or flange L, and from the top of this bead or flange two branches or parts of the handle radiate.
Placed upon the tops or outer ends of the branches B G is a short branch or body of a tree 0, which is smooth upon its exterior surface, slightly curved in outline, and which has formed upon its side any suitable ornamentation, such as is here shown, consisting of a rose branch, upon which there is a large full-blown rose, buds, and leaves.
The whole design as here shown and described presents an entirely new and novel eifect, which adds greatly to the attractiveness of the article to which it is applied.
Having thus described my invention, I claim The design for a cane, parasol, or umbrella handle, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT ROSENSTEIN.
