UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
CHARLES L. DREIIER, OF LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR A HANDLE FOR CANES, UMBRELLAS, 80C.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 19,844, dated May 20, 1890. Application filed April 16. 1890. Serial No. 348,234. Term of patent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, CHARLES L. DREHER, of Lancaster, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Designs for Cane and Umbrella. and Parasol Handles; andI do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms part of this specification.
Myinvention relates to an improvement in designs for cane, umbrella, and parasol handles; and it consists in the vertical or main portion of the handle, upon the top of which is mounted the curved figure, which forms a hook, and which is provided with suitable ornamentation, as will be more fully described hereinafter.
The accompanying photographic illustration represents a side elevation of a handle which embodies my invention.
A represents the main or straight portion of the handle, which is provided with corrugations B near its inner end, and above which is formed the representation of a flower C. Rising from the top of the flower is the curved figure a, which in general contour tapers to the outer end. The ends of this curved figure terminate in volutes G. The upper end of this curved figure is inclined downward, but is separated a suitable distance from its lower end, so as to leave an opening between them. In the lower portion of this curved figure are formed grooves II, which follow the curve of this portion, and at the upper end of these grooves are formed the curves or scrolls I. Near the top of the figure are formed the two oval bends or rings J, which extend around the figure at right angles to its length.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- The (lesign for a cane, umbrella, or parasol handle, substantiallyashercin shown and described.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHAS. L. DREHER.
