DESIGN FOR A CHECK OR COUNTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 18,213, dated March 27, 1888.
Serial No. 258,140.

To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM M. WELLING, of the city and State of New York, have invented or produced a new Design for Checks or Counters, of which the following isa specification.
Counters for numbers and letters and checks for clothing and for payments at restaurants, 820., have heretofore been designed of various shapes or ornamentation.
My design relates to the ornamentation of the surface of the check, regardless of any 1etter, number, or character that may or may not be upon the surface in addition to my design.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side View of a check in a magnified size with my design thereon, and Fig. 2 is a section of the same.
The check is circular and flat,and my design consists of the design of a circular ornament composed of numerous concentric circular lines, act, interrupted atintervals to produce the dots b b, and around the outside and inside of the circular ornament are borders of zigzag lines at c and d, and the center is a flat circular field within the design, and there is also a plain annular margin around the circular design.
This design is sunken into thesurface of the circular check. This ornamental design is the same Whether upon one or both sides of the check, as indicated in Fig. 2, and the lines thereof may be in contrasting colors to the surface of the check, or the contrast may result from the lines being recessed.
I claim JIhe ornamental design, as herein shown and described, for the surface of a circular check, consisting in the design of the concentric circular lines interrupted to form dots and the circular borders of zigzag lines, the plain inner circular field, and the outer plain annular margin, substantially as represented.
