Description

D1l-97. OR 0170920 EX DESIGN.
J. W. MAXGY.
BADGE OR MEDAL.
No. 17.920. T2 fl- Patented Dec. 6. 1887-.
a :ZTNESSES UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN VVHARTON MAXGY, OF AUSTIN, TEXAS.
DESIGN FOR A BADGE OR MEDAL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 17,920, dated December 6. 1887.
Application filed November 4, 1887. Serial No. 251,339. Term of patent 81} years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J ()HN WHARTON MAXCY a citizen of the United States, residing at Austin, in the county of Travis and State of Texas, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Souvenir Badges or Military Badges, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
Figure 1 is a View of the obverse of my new design for souvenir badges, and Fig. 2 is a similar view of the reverse of the same.
My design has relation to souvenir badges in the nature of medals, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
As will be seen by reference to the accompanying drawings, the obverse of this medal or badge has in the center a circular field containing a portrait. This circular field also forms the center of a five-pointed star, constituting the emblem of the State of Texas,or the Lone Star, as it is called. -From the central circular field smaller rays emanate in all directions between the five points of the star, so as to fill out the space between the inner central field and a concentric ring or circle, which, with the circular edge or rim of the badge proper, forms an an nnlar space for any suitable words or date in the upper half of this annular band, and in the lower half part of the same a similar space.
The reverse of the medal or badge is embellished with a representation of the State capitol of Texas, above and beneath which are suit-able words.
This medal or badge has a suspendingbar representing two military guns crossing each other, the barrels of which are grasped by the claws of an eagle with outstretched wings, as represented in Fig. 1 of the annexed drawings; but this ornamentation may be dispensed with, ildesired, or replaced by ornamentation of a different character, as the leading feature of my design consists in the obverse and reverse sides of the badge-or medal proper, as hereinbefore described.
I claim-'- The design for the souvenir badge or medal herein shown and described, the same consisting of a circular disk showing in its center a circular field containing aportrait, said circular field also forming the center of the national emblem of the State of Texas-to wit, a fivepointed star the points of which are confined within an outer circlewhich for1ns,with the rim of the badge or medal proper, an annular band containing suitable words.
J N O. VVHARTON MAXOY.
