SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 17,238, dated April 5, 1887. Application filed February 23. 1887 Serial No. 22$.F9-2. Term of patent 3.} years.

To all whom, it may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMEs L. FoLsoM, a citizen of the United States, residing in Brooklyn, county of Kings, State of New York, have 5 invented a new and Original Design for Carpets, of which the following isa specification, reference being had to the accompanying photograph, which forms a part of the same.

The invention relates to a design to be IO worked into or upon surfaces, such as carpets or similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel configuration and grouping of figures herein specifically shown and claimed.

The accompanying photograph is a face view 15 of a carpet, showing my new design.

The main feature of the design is the somewhat irregular distribution and arrangement over a plain ground of large and conspicuous oak-leaves, single and unconnected, and at places irregularly overlying one another, as 20 shown in the photograph. Several small clusters of star-shaped flowers and leaves appear in some of the larger interspaces between the main oak-leaf figures of the design.
