SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 14,880, dated March 11, 1884.

Be it known that I,'W. L. JACOBS, of East Orange, in the State of New Jersey, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets,

5' of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying photograph which forms a part of the same.

lhe invention relates to a design to be worked into or pon, surfaces, such as carpets 10 or similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel configuration and grouping of figures herein specifically shown and claimed.

The accomganying photograph is a face view of a carpet s owing my new design.

15 I The feature of the design is the general effect produced by the groundwork, which con sists of right-lined shadow-figures regularl arranged over the face of the design, as clearly shown inthe photograph. Above this ground are irregularly scattered large conventional 20 figures; without connection or special relation to one another or to the groundwork.

I claim-- The design for a carpet, substantially as shown and described.
