Be it known that I, XVM. E. STEVENS, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Design for a Coffin-Plate; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon. to be a. full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute partei' this specification, and represent, in-

This invention relates to a design for the plate adapted to be placed upon a coin, and upon which the inscription is engraved; and the design consists in the configuration, as shown in the accompanying illustration, and hereinafter described. The body of the plate is in the forni of a paralielograni, the surface from side to side convex in transverse section, as seen in Fig. 2. The ends are inclined backward and downward, and the plate rests upon a flat hase, as shown, the base forming a projecting border around the edge of this pecu- Marly-shaped plate. On the two ends of the base central ornaments project in the same plane as the base, and as shown in the accompanying illustration.
I claim- 1. In a design for coffin-plate, consisting in an outline in the form of a parallelogram, the surface curved outward from side to side in convex shape in transverse section, the two ends inclined downward and backward to the edge and resting upon ailat base, which forms a border around the plate, as shown in the accompanying illustration.
2. In a design for comu-plate, consisting in an ont-line iu the form of a. parallelogram, the surface curved outward from side to side in convex shape in transverse section, the two ends inclined downward and backward to the edge and resting upon a iiat base, which forms a border around the plate with a projecting ornament from the sides and ends of the base, as shown iu the accompanying illustration.
