DESIGN FOR A TOBACCO-KNIFE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 16,087, dated May 12,1885.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, Cius'rmc R. Cousms, of Swansonville, county of littsylvania, Vii ginia, haveinventcd a new and original Design for a Tobacco-Knife, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My design for a tobacco'knife consists in a novel configuration of the blade of the knife and of the blade combined with the handle thereof, as hereinafter shown and described.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming partofthis specification, in which similar letters ofreference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.

Figure 1 represents a side view of my newly designed tobacco-knife, and Fig. 2 a transverse section of the blade of the knife on the line a: x in Fig. l.

The blade A of the knife, where it projects from the forward end of the handle B, presents like opposite side profiles, the same being of hook form, and having its back or outer edge, b, made up of a series of irregular convex lines, while its front or inner margin, 0, is ofa concave figure, the two margins b and 0 meeting in a point, (i, at the outer end of the blade. The sides of the blade in transverse section present broad flattened surfaces e, bounded on the outer and inner margins, b c, by reverse bevels f f. The handleB of the knife presents in side profile a reverse curved figure to that of the blade, being of a convex outer side outline, g, and a concave inner side outline, h, terminating, respectively, at their 5 junction with the projecting portion of the blade in short concave and convex lines i k. Said handle, which is of varying width, presents angular bcvcls Z l on each side of its inner end where it joins the projecting portion of the blade, and a fiat figure or surface, in, on each side throughout the remainder of its length, and a rounded configuration in transverse section, as at n n, on each side of such flattened portion where the same joins the side outlines, g h, as shown.

Having thus described my invention,I claim as new and desire to secureby Letters Patent- 1. The design for a tobacco-knife herein shown and described, the same consisting ofa blade, A, having its outer marginal edge, b, g

made up of a series of irregular convex lines, its inner marginal edge, 0, of a concave outline meeting the outer marginal edge, I), at the forward end of the blade in a point, (I, and its sides flat surfaces 6 e bounded where they join the outer and inner marginal edges by reverse bevelsff, substantially as specified.

The design for a tobacco-knife herein shown and described, the same consisting of a blade A, of convex outer and concave inner marginal configuration, as at b 0, meeting in a point, (I, with fiat side surfaces, cc, bound f by reverse bevels f f where said surfaces join the outer and inner marginal edges, and ofa handle, B, of reverse curved form in its side profile, as atg h, to that of the blade, and a flat surface, in, on each side bounded by inner and outer side convex surfaces 12. n in trans verse section, as set forth.
