or leveler, the obj ect of the invention being to 1 0 v provide an improved machine of this character embodying blades of novel construction which serve to work the dirt toward the center of the road and distribute and evenly pack the dirt.
The invention consists in the features of construction, combination, and arrangement of devices, hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a road drag constructed and arranged in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
Fig. 3 is a detailed horizontal sectional view of one of the blades.
In the embodiment of my invention here shown, a pair of blades 1 are employed, one arranged in front of the other and each provided at its upper side with a rearwardly extending flange 2. The blades are connected together by bars 3 which are bolted lon the upper flanges of the blades and are arranged near the ends of the blades inclined, braces 4 being provided for the blades and being arranged on the rear sides thereof in the angles between the blades and the bars and being secured to the blades and the bars.
I also provide a pair of crossed braces 6 which are secured on the upper sides of the blades and are arranged between the bars 3.
Said bars 3 project forwardly from the blades and drag chains 7 are attached to the front ends of said bars as shown and beingk provided with a ring 9 to'which the double-k tree or swingletree is hitched. One of the drag chains is longer than the other, so that the drag is arranged obliquely to the line of draft. K
Each blade is sinuous so that its lower and upper edges form compound curves. Each blade is also oppositely inclined at its opposite ends, so that its front end 10 inclines upwardly rearwardly and its rear or inner end 1l inclines downwardly rearwardly as shown. Hence, when the drag is in use, its curved blades cut along the outer edge o-f the road, work the dirt toward the center of the road and also evenly pack and distribute thedirt and without leaving a ridge of dirt in the center of the road which is highly objectionable and which is ordinarily formed by road drags or scrapers such as heretoforev used.
Having described the invention, what is claimed is:
A road drag comprising a pair of spaced parallel sinuous blades, the opposite ends of which are equally inclined in opposite directions, each blade being formed with a horizontal rearwardly extending integral flange at its upper side, bars connecting the blades and bearing on said flanges thereof and inclined braces on the rear sides of the blades, arranged in the angles between the blades and the bars and being secured to the blades andthe bars, said Vbra-ces bearing against the rear side of said flanges.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
NELS O. JOHNSON.
