DESIGN FOR A CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 14,395, dated November 6, 1883.
Application filed August 23, 1883. Term of patent 35 years.

Be it known that I, VILLIAM MCCALLUM, of Yonkers, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design forza Carpet, of which the following is a full description, in connection With the accompanying photograph, which represents a face View of my new design for a carpet.
This invention relates to a new ornainenta tion for the border of a carpet or analogous fabric.
In the accompanying photograph are shoivn iive parallel bars or stripes, a b d e f, which divide the carpet into four bands, A, B, C, and D, the band C being the broadest. In this band C are contained the representations of three owering plants, E, F, and G. The
plant E appears to grow from the band D over the stripe e, and to connect its upper part With leaves g and h in the bands B and A, respectively. The plant F appears also to grow out of the band D and to extend into the bands B and A, as shown. The plant G also appears to grow out of the band D and partly overlaps the stripe d. The stripe c is composed of dotted ligures, the stripe b of octagonal figures and dots, the stripe d of parallel bars, the stripe e of parallel bars containing between them uprights or cross-bars, while the stripe f contains a zigzag line between parallel bars, all as shown. In the band B, beside the portions ol1 the plants E and E, are also contained circular iigures i and obliquely-placed bars j. The band C contains a checkered background, 0n which the upper parts of the fioral groups appear to be placed.
