Description
PATENT OEEICE.
THOMAS MADDOCK, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A COVERED DISH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 13,977, dated June 12,
Application filed April 23, 1883. Term of patent 7 years.
ToraZZ whom it' may concern Be it known that l, THoMAs Mlinnocir, a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented or produced a new and original Design for Covered Dishes, to be known as the Windsor shape, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my newlydesigned dish. Fig. 2 is aplan view thereof. Fig. 3 is an inverted plan, and Fig. 4 is a transverse section cut in the plane of the lines 4 4 in the other iignres. l
The body portion A of the dish has, when viewed in plan, as shown in Fig. 3, straight sides and ends at right angles to each other, and its corners c a are chamfered off at an angle of -about forty-five degrees. lts sides and ends, when viewed in side or end elevation, curve downwardly and join the bottom with a gentle curve. rlhe bottom of the dish is slightly elevated byx means of feet e e, of the shape shown.y The cover-ledge bis formed inside the dish, a short distance below the top, as seen in Fig. 4, thus leaving a flange, c, forming the upper portion of the Walls of the dish, projecting somewhat above this ledge. This flange c curves slightly outwardly, as shown best in Fig. 4, and is ornamented by being formed with a scalloped upper edge, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4, the latter showing in dotted lines the scallops on the end of the dish.
The cover B is made of similar form to the body portion of the dish when viewed in plan, as seen. in Fig. 2, having straight sides and ends and chamfered corners. lts bottom portion is made of such size and shape as to iit inside of the iiange'c and rest on the ledge b. Its top is nearly iiat and `joins the edges by short curves, and on the top surface is formed a rectangular panel, f, raised very slightly above the general surface. When the cover is in place on the dish its bottom portion sinks below the top of the dish, being concealed by the scalloped flange c, thus presenting the appearance shown in Fig. 1.
The handles shown on the cover and on the ends of the dish form no part of my present design, and may be replaced by any other suitable form of handle.
What l claim as new is as follows:
1. The design for a covered dish herein shown and described, the same consisting of a body portion, the sides and ends of which curve downwardly and inwardly to the bottom, and, when viewed in plan, are straight, their corners or angles being chamfered off, as shown, and the upper edges of the sides and ends being scalloped.
2. The design for a covered dish herein shown and described, the a body portion, A, the sides and ends of which curve downwardly and inwardly to the bottom, are straight when viewed in plan, and their corners are ehamfered off at a a, as shown, with the feet e e, of the form shown.
3. rlhe design for a covered dish herein shown and described, the same consisting of a body portion, A, of the form shown, and a cover, B, iitting inside and below the upper edge of the body portion, formed with a nearly dat top, its sides curving downward to the edges, and with the corners chamfered off, as shown.
4. The design for a covered dish herein shown and described, the same consisting of a body portion, A, of the form shown, and a cover, B, having straight sides and ends and chamfered corners, a nearly-dat top, and a slightly-raised panel, f, thereon, as shown.
In witness whereof 'I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
