Description

DF-IQVJ I NG F'GGE UNQUQ I LIABLE DOCUMENT-NUMBER UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH F. LUDLAM, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
DESIGN FOR A WATCH-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,228, dated April 19, 1881.
Application filed February 18, 1881. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH F. LUDLAM, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York have invented a Design for Watch- Oases, of which the following is a specification.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my newly-designed watch-case, and Fig. 2 is a transverse section. 2
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
The distinguishing features ofthe design are the scalloped beveled portions a and raised ornamental beads b on the rim of the caps. The heads I), which may have a surface ornamentation of any desired character, form the rims or edges of the caps, and project, when the case is closed, above the surface of the ring-case. The beveled portions (1' join the beads and are fluted in the direction of the bevel, so that the angles present a scalloped outline. The basket-Work ornamentation of the case is between the beads b on the surface or periphery of the ring-case, which is sunken by the projection of the heads at each side. 2 5 The surface of the caps within the beveled edge may be ornamented, as desired.
I am aware that beads or knurls have been applied to the edge of watch-caps. Such I do not claim. 30
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The design for watch-cases, consisting of the fluted or scalloped bevel portion a and 5 heads 12, forming the edges of the caps, as shown and described.
2. The design for Watch-cases, consisting of the fluted bevel portion a and heads I) of the caps, in connection with the basket-ornamen- 40 I tation c on the periphery of the case, as shown
