No. 11,329. Patented Aug.12,1879.
[22 mm far awa UNITED-S ATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES P. HOWARD, OF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO JAMES L. HOWVARD & 00., OF SAME PLACE.
DES IGN FOR BASKET-RACK BRACKETS.
Specification forming part of Design No. 1 1,329, dated August 12, 1879; application filed July 7, 1879. [Term of patent 7 years] To all whom it may concern:
Be'it known that 1, CHARLES P. HOWARD, of Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have originated and designed certain Ornamentations and Form for Basket- Rack End Brackets used in railroad-cars and other places; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
Figure 1 is an elevation of the end bracket. Fig. 2 is a vertical section in the line atof Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a vertical section in the line 3 y of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is also a vertical sec tion in the line z z of Fig. 1.
In the accompanying drawings, the end bracket for basket-racks is shown, and A thereon designates an open-work panel; B, a standard applied between the top edge of the panel and a curved upwardly and outwardly extending bar, C. Beneath the panel a ring-plate, D, is formed. The standard B and ring-plate D are provided with bracing portions a l) c, which connect, respectively, with the curved bar C, panel B, and ringplate D, in the manner shown.
The curved bar and the ring-plate are respectively provided with perforated flanges (Z c, by which the bracket is fastened in position by suitable means.
The shape of the end bracket and the relation of the parts composing it will be clearly seen by the drawings.
The ornamentation of the solid parts of the panel, standard, and curved bar consists, mainly, of depressions f, running longitudinally, transversely, circularly, radially, and
' diagonally, as illustrated in the drawings.
A further ornamentation is made by rounding the portions g, and providing the diamond ornament h, in combination with the circular ornament m in the center of the panel, and uniting the braces b with the standard B by the circular ornament nand a finishingpoint, p, of cone shape, at the end of the bar D, adds to the general design, while 'the elegance of the bracket is enhanced by terminating the braces in the form shown at q, and making the upper braces, a, in theform of an inverted V-arch, and the lower braces, I), of a V-arch, as shown.
The bracket is cast in one piece, and its solid portions inclose spaces E E E E E E E E, as shown in the drawings, and by this means a very beautiful effect is produced, the bracket appearing light, ornamental, and durable, and by this combination of form and ornamentation both beauty and strength are obtained.
\Vhat I claim as my invention is- 1. The designof the form of end brackets for rack-baskets, as herein described and shown.
2. The design of the ornamentation of end Signed in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
