Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MICHEL LINZ, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
.WlND-OW-CORNICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 289,544, dated December 4,1883.
Application filed August 31,1883. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MroHEL LINZ, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ad,-
5 justable WVindow-Oornices, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all-the figures.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improvement, parts being broken away. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view of a part of the same, taken through the line a: m, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sec tional end elevation of the same, taken through the broken line y y, Fig. 1.
The object of this invention is to facilitate the making of adjustable window-cornices, and also to promote convenience in using such cormcesr A represents the central or main piece of the cornice, in the rear side of which is formed a groove, E, to receive the extendible end pieces, B.
To the inner end of each end piece, B, is attached an iron T-bar, '0, the cross-head of which fits against the edge of the said end, and its shank extends along and is secured to the inner side of the said end, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3. The shank of the T-bar O is made rectangular, and fits and slides in a groove, F, in the middle part of the bottom of the groove E, in which the said end piece, B, slides, so that the said T-bar C will serve as a guide to the said end piece, B, to cause it to move in and out easily, and will serve also as an additional support to strengthen the connection between the said end piece and the center piece.
D is a set-screw, which passes through a screw-hole in the cross-head of the T-bar C, so that its forward end will rest against the center piece, A, and thus secure the end piece, B, in place when adjusted. The outer ends of the grooves F are closed by blocks G, secured to the center piece, A, to serve as stops for the ends of the shanks of the T-bars C to strike against, to prevent the end pieces, B, from being separated from the center piece, A.
The center piece, A, can be ornamented in any desired style and to any desired extent.
I am aware that it is not new to make a cornice with a grooved center piece and end pieces fitting adjustablytherein; but
WVhat I claim as new and of my invention 1. An adjustablewindow-cornice constructed substantially as herein shown and de-. scribed, and consisting of the center piece, having grooves and stop-blocks, and the sliding end pieces, having end T-bars and setscrews, as set forth.'
1 2. In an adjustable window-cornice, the
MICHEL LINZ.
