mi-Ei Ex DESIGN.
G. W. SHIEBLER. Spoon and Fork Handles.
' .11,289. Patented July 8,1879,
ummmlmu UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE GEORGE W. SHIEBLER, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
DESIGN FOR SPOON AND FORK HANDLES.
Specification forming part of Design No. 11,289. dated July 8, 1879; application tiled Maz` 2, 1879.
[Tenu of patent 7 years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. SHIEBLER., of Newark, in the State of New Jersey, have invented and produced a new and useful Design for the Handles of Forks and Spoons, and the following is declared to he an exact description of the same.
This design relates to the outline shape of the handle and to the shape of the panel and shield ornaments.
The outline of the end of the spoon is that of a laneet-aroh, a, and the edges b of the handle taper gradually with a compound cnrve to the narrowest part of the handle, and then widen again at the junction of the handle with the bowl or fork.
The panel of the handle is the same general shape as the outline of the edges; but the lancet-areh is narrower, so that the border e be tween the panel and the edge is widest at the broadest part of the handle. There is a rib around the edges of the panel, and the border is slightly concave, as illustrated in the enlarged section, Fig. 2.
The shield i' is made with hand projections at the edges of the handle. The leaflet k is upon the handle, near the narronest part of the shank.
In the panels the groundwork is stippled, by preference, and ornamented with ilowers and leaves; but these may be varied.
I claim as my invention- The design ot' the ornamental handle, substantially as represented, the same consisting in the lancet-shaped end. the plain concave border, widest where the handle is broadest, a rib between the border and panel, and the shield i, and leaflet ornament lr, substantially as represented.
Signed by lue this 29th day of April, A. D. 1879.
GEO. W. SHIEB LER.
